Creative Studio Lesson 10: Going through exam roles and starting rehearsal of exam script

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

For the majority of the lesson, we talked about what each role in the exam involves so everyone can understand what they need to do, to get good marks. This gave us an opportunity to ask questions about the exam. So I asked do we need to credit the music we use and that our script is an adaptation of Dogville? Since I made videos before where I had to credit the music, so I have got to do this again for the exam as long as it’s royalty-free music. Also mention that it’s for educational purposes. When we do the exam we are allowed up to three takes of the film, allowing us to make sure we have a perfect take of the film. For the end of this lesson, we rehearsed the start of my Dogville: The Deluded Blind Man film. The rehearsal took longer than expected because when I wrote it I can visualise the shots but not know what it’s like for the camera operators. So it took some organising to make sure they were in the right spot for filming their shots. The first scene has a fast pace, so we need to rehearse the scene more to make sure the shots are ready quick enough or I have to cut the number of shots used to allow more time. To work on this I’m going to have an extra rehearsal booked in the studio so the actors can practise moving in the space and the camera operators can practice their shots. Yet it turns out we’re not allowed the equipment when we’re rehearsing in the studio, so the camera operators have to practice the shots on their phones. We also decided how we’re going to organise the opening titles and chapter descriptions that pop up on the screen. After counting down to studio, I cue VT, then after 5 seconds for each text, I cue the actors as we cut to the wide shot.
